Summary Curriculum Vitae

  • William N. Offutt IV, MD, FACS has been innovative in new techniques, including the introduction of CO2 laser upper and lower lid blepharoplasty for cosmetic and reconstructive purposes in 1995 in Kentucky.  Dr. Offutt has performed over 550 CO2 laser eyelid surgeries.  Dr. Offutt has been an ophthalmic plastic and cosmetic surgeon for 30 years.
  • The advantage of the CO2 laser is that there is minimal intra-operative bleeding during blepharoplasty and therefore there is decreased postoperative swelling and bruising leading to a much faster healing and more predictable result.

  • In addition to his private practice, Dr. Offutt is Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology and Director of the Ophthalmic Plastic Surgical Service in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Kentucky. Dr. Offutt continues to educate ophthalmology residents in ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery, having established the Ophthalmic Plastic Surgical Service in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Kentucky in 1972.
  • Among other awards, Dr. Offutt has received the American Academy of Ophthalmology Honor Award and received the Wills Eye "Silver Tray" alumnus award.  Dr. Offutt has been past Chairman of the American Academy of Ophthalmology Council and is a past member of the Board of Trustees of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is a past president of the Lexington Academy of Eye Physicians and Surgeons, the Kentucky Academy of Eye Physicians and Surgeons, and the Wills Eye Hospital Society in Philadelphia.
  • Dr. Offutt is a skilled ophthalmic plastic surgeon with 30 years experience in performing many complicated ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive procedures.  Dr. Offutt follows a tradition in ophthalmic surgery.  His father and grandfather were eye surgeons in Lexington, beginning in 1902, over 100 years ago.
